This project is designed as a retreat for those seeking to step away from the ordinary and reconnect with nature. A variety of programs are distributed throughout the site, including thermal baths, a library, an auditorium, yoga and fitness studios, an art studio, a spa, and communal spaces such as a fire circle. Each program supports rest, reflection, creativity, and well-being.
The architecture is intentionally simple and restrained, allowing the surrounding landscape to remain the primary focus. Buildings are positioned and designed to frame views, invite natural light, and dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. Through careful use of natural elements, the project explores a balance between exposure and privacy, creating an immersive experience that fosters a deep connection between guests and their environment.
Site Plan Intentionality
This project could take many different approaches; in this case, it felt right to respect the natural site. Instead of placing a single big and heavy building, the approach was a more porous design that works together with nature instead of overtaking it. A simple design that makes nature the main protagonist.
User Experience
The user will be immersed in nature through different scenarios where they will find themselves underground, partially underground, on-ground, and above ground. Each of these experiences is paired with various tactile and visual experiences that enhance the concept of wellness, a space meant for deep connection with oneself and nature.
Multilevel Design
The best example of multilevel design (out of many in this project) is the auditorium/spa space. It features three different ways to enter the building and three different levels, each of which represents a different use — Lounge, auditorium, spa, lobby, terrace/viewing point.
The Simplest Form of Architecture
We tend to forget that one of the earliest forms of architecture was fire, which in its early primitive days did the same as any modern day bulding would do — gather people around, form connections, and promote interactions. There is nothing more comforting than letting oneself get lost in nature and be aware of the surroundings while sitting by the fire.
Though simple, this image alone symbolizes what this whole project is all about.
